Here are three tips to help you publicize your organization and make news.
1. When you present a story idea about your organization to a journalist, make someone directly impacted by the story available for an interview. For example, if you work in a nonprofit, point the reporter to someone who benefits from your services.
2. Know who covers your specific subject area for your local and trade media. For example, if your business is technology-related, see if your target media outlets have a technology reporter. Otherwise, contact a general business reporter to pitch a story about something your business is doing.
3. Be patient. Focus on building relationships with journalists and educating them about your organization. When they call you, provide them with accurate information in a timely fashion.
